About the Caucus
The power of local citizens in Howard and Carroll Counties working together for equality.
We are the LGBT Political Investment Caucus. You can get involved too.
Our Mission
The LGBT Political Investment Caucus members are dedicated to securing legal equality on all levels of Local and State Government in Maryland through legislative advocacy. We believe the treatment and rights of all Maryland citizens should be equal. As a voter and/or financial contributor to the caucus, you have a powerful voice in changing the politics of Maryland.
How We Started
In the summer of 2005, with attacks against Lesbian and Gay families on the rise from conservative extremists, along with looming Gubernatorial, General, and County elections, 20 concerned citizens met in Columbia one evening to begin a political investment caucus. By forming an all-volunteer check bundling campaign, combined with a food, fun, and detailed review of candidate positions on a wide-range of equality issues, this small group of citizens were able to bundle small checks into powerful campaign contributions.
In the following years, dozens of new members joined the caucus, expanding our activities and financial strength. With the power to bundle thousands of dollars for local candidates who support LGBT equality, the caucus is an effective enabler of positive change in our community. Now you can join the caucus and help shape a more progressive Maryland.
How the Caucus Works
The LGBT Political Investment Caucus gathers liked-minding people together and "invests" in our local politicians, here in Howard and Carroll Counties, along with selected campaigns at the state level. We help bundle checks from citizens--like you--for contribution to local campaigns. We never collect the money directly, but we provide lots of background, education, and advocacy to help you make informed decisions. When we bundle checks together, our impact is multiplied.
We also help recruit, fund, and mobilize campaigns by participating in letter writing, editorials, stuffing envelopes, marching in parades--anything to help our candidates run effective and winning campaigns.
